The Client Experience
What Clients Say About Building with Summerall Custom Construction
Building a home, especially in the lowcountry, is a big deal. It takes trust, good communication, and the right people to bring everything together. Clients who have worked with David Summerall and his team say the same thing—he makes the process clear, honest, and even enjoyable.
No Middlemen, No Runaround
A lot of builders have layers of management, making it hard to get a straight answer. That’s not how David works. Jamie Pentz of Callawassie Island put it simply: “He’s a guy that you don’t have to go through seven layers of people to get to. He’s the guy.” When clients have questions, they get answers. When decisions need to be made, they happen quickly. That kind of direct involvement changes everything.
A Reputation That Stands Out
Choosing a builder isn’t a quick decision. Earl Endicott spent extensive time researching and interviewing seven different builders before making the call. “I was looking for flexibility and a good reputation,” Endicott said. “David had both.”
Phil and Pam Kuhn of Fripp Island evaluated multiple builders and proposals but knew the choice was clear after one phone call. “We hung up and just looked at each other—we knew. He was friendly, down to earth, and easy to talk to.”
A Team That Sets the Tone
It’s not just David—it’s the entire crew. Walk onto one of his job sites, and you’ll see it. Endicott recalled, “I talked with the plumbers, electricians, framers, and drywallers. They all spoke highly of David and the whole team. That meant a lot. His superintendent, his subs—they were all looking out for us.” That kind of consistency doesn’t happen by accident.
Keeping Clients in the Loop
Building from out of state can feel overwhelming, but regular updates make all the difference. Pam Kuhn explained, “We live in Dallas and couldn’t be here all the time. Every Friday, we’d get pictures, a summary of what was happening, and a contact for any questions.”
For clients who like to stay involved but can’t always be on-site, that level of communication makes the process feel seamless.
A Builder You Actually Enjoy Working With
Home construction is serious work, but that doesn’t mean it has to be stressful. Pam Kuhn shared, “David made it easy and fun. I’m really going to miss working with him when it’s all over.”
That says everything.
